Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at open

Index rises over 830 points from previous close; Turkish lira gains ground

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index rose 0.84% or 830.65 points to start Wednesday at 99,656.76 points.

On Tuesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index rose 0.49% to close the day at 98,826.11 points with a daily trading volume of 7.9 billion Turkish liras ($1.4 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate fell to 5.6910 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday from 5.7410 at Tuesday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also dropped to 6.2520, versus 6.3010, and one British pound traded for 7.9110 Turkish liras, compared to 6.9330 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent oil sold for around $58.56 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Wednesday.
