ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark index started the day with a 241.77-point increase to open at 87,720.11 on Wednesday.
During the first transactions of the day, the BIST 100 index rose by 0.28 percent while the banking and holding sector indexes surged by 0.44 and 0.20 percent, respectively.
The wood paper printing index was the best performer -- 0.89 percent -- while the sports sector started the day with the largest decline, falling 0.15 percent.
On Tuesday the BIST 100 index closed 0.33 percent lower, down 287.08 points to around 87,478.33 points.
The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate increased to 3.6350 at 09.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday, compared with 3.6180 at Tuesday's close.
Gold held at $1,243.59 an ounce.
