ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s benchmark index started Thursday with a 176.08-point jump to open at 94,698.43 points.
The BIST 100 index rose by 0.19 percent with the banking and holding sector indices rising by 0.37 percent and 0.02 percent respectively.
The insurance sector index was the best performer with a 2.65 percent rise while the investment trusts index started the day with the biggest drop, falling by 0.37 percent.
The stock market was down 112.56 points or 0.62 percent at the close on Wednesday, reaching 94,522.34 with a total trading volume of 5.7 billion Turkish liras ($1.6 billion).
The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate dropped to 3.5620 at 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) Thursday, compared with 3.5800 at Wednesday’s close.
Meanwhile confidence in Turkey’s economy improved in April, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute. The Economic Confidence Index rose by 3.6 percent to 99.5 points in the month from 96 points in March.
