Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at opening

BIST 100 index climbs 0.56%, Turkish lira gains ground against other currencies

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index rose by 0.57% or 538.38 points to open at 97,347.38 points Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index surged 1.70% to close the day at 96,809 points with a daily trading volume of 5.9 billion Turkish liras (some $1 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate fell to 5.7680 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), from Tuesday's closing rate of 5.8130.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate dropped to 6.5510 from 6.5700 at the previous close.

One British pound traded for 7.5510 Turkish liras as the GBP/TRY exchange rate was 7.6090 at market close on Tuesday.

The price of Brent oil was around $71.98 per barrel as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) Wednesday.
