Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at Tuesday's opening

BIST 100 index gains nearly 1,700 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index rose 1.57%, or 1,687.63 points, on Tuesday to start the day at 108,997.50 points.

At Monday's close, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index was up 1.24% at 107,309.87 points, with a daily trading volume of 8.2 billion Turkish liras ($1.3 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate dropped to 6.1980 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Tuesday, versus 6.2230 at the previous close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate slipped to 6.9100, compared to 6.9180, and one British pound traded for 7.9430 Turkish liras. It was 7.9680 at Monday's close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $52.62 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Tuesday.

Analysts said investors would follow Turkey's February inflation figures set to be announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute on Tuesday.
