ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed at 1,391.92 points on Wednesday, up 0.59% from the previous close.
Starting the day at 1,392.13 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index gained 8.15 points from Tuesday’s close of 1,383.77 points.
The index’s lowest value during the day was 1,389.85 points, while its daily high was 1,396.67 points.
The BIST banking index gained 1.58% while the holding index was up 0.83%. Among the sector indices, the banking was the highest earner, while the metal and main industry was the one that lost the most, 0.85%.
The total market value of the BIST 100 was more than 1 trillion Turkish liras ($118 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of over 12.4 billion Turkish liras ($1.4 billion).
One ounce of gold traded for $1,743.70 by market close, up from $1,741.10 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil was $78.22 per barrel as of 6.43 p.m. local time (1543GM).
According to analysts, after the sharp fall in global stock markets on Tuesday due to increasing inflationary pressure led by distruptions in the supply and energy supply, an increase in risk appetite is observed in the markets on Wednesday.
