ANKARA (AA) - Turkish tennis player Cagla Buyukakcay on Sunday qualified for the 2021 Australian Open second qualifying round in women's singles.
In the first round match held in Dubai for coronavirus pandemic, world no. 178 in singles, Buyukakcay won against Andorran opponent Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva with sets of 6-4, 6-4 to book her place for the second qualifying round.
Buyukakcay, 31, will play against 23-year-old Croatian athlete Ana Konjuh in the next stage.
There are three rounds to complete the qualifying phase for the 2021 AO as the qualifiers are held between January 10 and 13.
This season's first Grand Slam tournament is scheduled in Melbourne between February 8 and 21.
