ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's chicken meat production dropped 6.9 percent to nearly 169,000 tons year-on-year in January, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced on Wednesday.
TurkStat said, turkey meat production also decreased by 2.8 percent to 5,080 tons in January, compared with the same month of the last year.
During the first month of 2019, 97 million chicken and 430,000 turkey were slaughtered, down 6.7 percent and 7.1 percent versus the same month 2018, respectively.
Hen egg production -- 1.7 billion units -- increased by 0.8 percent in January 2019, compared with January 2018.
Last year, the country produced 2.16 million tons of chicken meat, 69,500 tons of turkey meat, and 19.6 billion hen eggs.
