ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's foreign minister met the Afghan president as well as his counterpart in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent on Thursday.

Mevlut Cavusoglu said a meeting with Ashraf Ghani and Mohammad Haneef Atmar was held to discuss "efforts for lasting peace in Afghanistan."

"Our support to friendly and brotherly Afghanistan will continue," he tweeted.

Efforts for a political settlement in Afghanistan have picked up pace as foreign forces are set to withdraw from the war-torn country by Sept. 11.
