Palestine's envoy to the UN on Monday praised slain Turkish American activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi as "a martyr for Palestinians."

Mansour was asked about the killing of Eygi by an Israeli sniper in the occupied West Bank, and the acceptance of some in the US government of Israel's explanation that it was "an accident," despite eyewitness claims to the contrary.

"Among the Palestinian people and leadership, we consider her as being assassinated. She is a martyr for Palestinians," Riyad Mansour told Anadolu.

Eygi, who was killed by an Israeli sniper bullet on Sept. 6 while protesting illegal settlements and occupation, was sent to Türkiye for burial after receiving honors at the compound of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
