ISTANBUL (AA) - Export of automobiles from Turkey soared 77 percent from January to May compared from the same period last year to reach $5.7 billion, according to a new Automotive Manufacturers’ Association (OSD) report.
Thursday's report said automotive industry exports rose 23 percent year-on-year on a dollar basis to $12.4 billion in the same period.
The number of automobiles Turkey exported climbed 54 percent to 425,000, according to the report.
The OSD said that automotive production -- including automobiles, light commercial vehicles and tractors -- in the country surged 22 percent to stand at 728,000 vehicles in the same period.
Automobile production also rose 41 percent annually to stand at 507,000 in January-May.
The overall auto sales market (including light trucks and other vehicles) narrowed 9 percent to 325,000 compared to same period last year.
