Ankara-based Turmaks to deliver new field clinic for the use of European Union Training Mission in Mali, West Africa

By Muhammed Ali Gurtas

ANKARA (AA) - A Turkish firm is making an advanced, quick-setup field clinic for EU training personnel in the West African nation of Mali, the company said Monday.

Turmaks, based in the capital Ankara, has started to manufacture the special three-container clinic for the use of the European Union Training Mission in Mali (EUTM Mali), a force for training the country’s military.

Turmaks will also be responsible for the installation and logistic operations of the clinic, which will serve in three different places in Mali, according to a company statement.

"The first destination for the field clinic will be EUTM Mali camp in the Koulikoro region, near Mali's capital Bamako. After a brief training program, the clinic will be transported to Sikasso and Kayes, for a two-month period in each city," the company said.

Detailing the project, the clinic will provide surgery, an intensive care unit, radiology and other support units through its two containers with expandable technology plus a standard one, for three containers in total.

"Like all Turmaks field hospitals, it has an integrated design planned to be self-sufficient with a generator, water treatment and medical gas systems," the company said. "Thanks to this design, the clinic can be established in a day."

The Turkish manufacturer also stated that medical administration of the clinic would be done by a top French company on behalf of the EU mission.

"That French company, which has been working with us since the early stages of the design process, will also provide doctors, nurses and other medical employees," Turmaks added.

Turmaks, founded in 1997, is a major Turkish manufacturer of mobile field hospitals that can be deployed and operational in very short order.

The company has completed several healthcare projects in Turkey, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Darfur (in western Sudan), Ghana, Ivory Coast, Maldives, Mali, and Nigeria.
