ANKARA (AA) – Türkiye’s first lady on Saturday marked the seventh anniversary of the defeated 2016 coup in Türkiye.
“On the 7th anniversary of the victory, we commemorate our Heroes of the Century of Türkiye, who were born like the moon to the darkness that surrounded the country all over the country, with respect and gratitude,” Emine Erdogan wrote on Twitter, referring to the people who helped defeat the coup attempt in a matter of hours.
“I hope this spirit of faith and victory, which made our country invincible, will live forever,” she added.
The president’s wife also offered her prayers for those who lost their lives in the coup attempt and the families of the victims.
Türkiye on Saturday marked the seventh anniversary of the defeated 2016 coup bid by the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO).
Since its official designation in October 2016, every year the nation marks July 15 as Democracy and National Unity Day, with events held nationwide to commemorate those who lost their lives defeating the putschists and to remember the bravery of the nation.
FETO and its US-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup, which left 253 people dead and 2,734 injured.
