ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkish football chief Nihat Ozdemir on Monday stepped down from the post.
Ozdemir had over a year left in his tenure and gave no reason for his resignation.
The Turkish Football Federation said in a statement that Servet Yardimci, the group’s vice president, would serve as the acting head until a replacement is chosen.
In 2019, Ozdemir, the only candidate for the post, was elected the federation's 42nd president with 179 out of 183 votes.
Last month Turkiye failed to book a spot at this year's World Cup finals after losing to Portugal 3-1.
