Binali Yildirim vows to continue 'cleansing campaign' of FETO members embedded in public institutions

ANKARA (AA) - Over 20,000 people have been remanded in custody since July 15 as part of ongoing probes into the coup attempt, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said late Wednesday.

"40,029 people have been detained, and 20,355 remanded in custody including police officers, soldiers, judiciary members, local administrators and civilians," Yildirim said during an interview aired live on TRT Haber news channel.

The Turkish premier vowed to continue the "cleansing campaign" of FETO members in the public sector in order to prevent another potential coup attempt in the future.

So far, nearly 80,000 civil servants have been suspended from duty, while 5,014 have been dismissed, Yildirim said.
