ANKARA (AA) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan flew to Doha, Qatar on Sunday to attend the 2022 FIFA World Cup closing ceremony, concluding the first World Cup held in an Arab country.
At the invitation of Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, Erdogan will also watch the epic final match this evening between France and Argentina.
On Nov. 20, Erdogan, a semi-professional football player in his youth, attended the opening ceremony of the World Cup in Qatar, where he met with world leaders.
As part of bilateral security cooperation, Ankara deployed more than 3,000 police officers and security personnel to provide security along with their Qatari counterparts for the world’s premier football tournament.
