ISTANBUL (AA) - Seven people, including two members from terror organizations, were caught trying to illegally cross the Turkish borders, the Turkish National Defense Ministry said Wednesday.

The ministry said they were trying to “illegally cross from our country to Greece and from Syria to our country and were apprehended by our border units.”

“Upon investigation, it was determined that one of the apprehended individuals is a member of FETO and the other is a member of the PKK/PYD-YPG terrorist organization,” it added.

In its more than 35-year terror campaign against Türkiye, the PKK -- listed as a terror organization by Türkiye, the US and the EU -- has been responsible for the deaths of more than 40,000 victims, including women, children and infants.

FETO orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, in Türkiye, in which 251 victims were killed and 2,734 injured.

Türkiye accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police and judiciary.
