SANLIURFA, Türkiye (AA) – Turkish security forces caught a PKK/PYD terrorist near the country's border with Syria, security sources said Sunday.
Security at the border was tightened in response to intelligence suggesting that a terrorist was planning to infiltrate Türkiye from Syria, said the sources on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.
Security teams successfully apprehended the terrorist at the border in the Ceylanpinar district of the Sanliurfa province, and legal proceedings have been initiated against him.
In its more than 35-year terror campaign against Türkiye, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the US and the European Union — has been responsible for the deaths of more than 40,000 people, including women, children and infants.
The YPG/PYD is the PKK’s Syrian offshoot.
