Turkish shares close higher on Tuesday

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100, the country’s benchmark index, closes at 77,160.67, rising 434.93 points on Tuesday

ANKARA (AA) - Shares on the Borsa Istanbul stock exchange market closed higher on Tuesday, boosted by the textile sector.

Borsa Istanbul BIST 100 index was up 0.57 percent, or 434.93 points, to close the day at 77,160.67.

On the second trading day of the week, the textile sector index was up by 2.67 percent, the banking sector index rose 1.56 percent, and the holding sector index 0.10 percent. The biggest decline was seen in the mining sector index, down 1.28 percent.

The stock exchange’s total trade volume was 3.8 billion Turkish liras (some $1.28 billion).

The Borsa Istanbul Gold Exchange index decreased by 0.30 percent in value on Tuesday compared to Monday's closing, with gold trading at 127,700 Turkish liras (approx. $42,996) per kilogram.

The Turkish lira gained value against the U.S. dollar to stand at 2.97 compared to 2.98 the previous day's closing.
