ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s benchmark index was down 1.05 percent at the close of the daily session Tuesday.
The BIST 100 index lost 784.75 points to close at 74,205.48. The total trading volume of the country's stock exchange market was 3 billion Turkish liras (approx. $875 million).
On the second day of the week, the banking and holding sector indices fell 1.10 and 0.53 percent, respectively.
Among sector indices, the investment trusts index rose the most – 2.63 percent – while the leasing factoring index was the worst performer with a drop of 6.71 percent.
The most heavily traded stocks were lenders Garanti Bank, Halkbank, Akbank, Is Bankasi, and national flag carrier Turkish Airlines.
Shares of Bizim Toptan, a wholesale trade company part of food giant Ulker, were the top percent gainer with an increase of 2.53 percent, while Trabzonspor, a major sports club, saw a 4.47 percent fall, the biggest of the day.
The Borsa Istanbul Gold Exchange index fell 0.50 percent in value, with gold trading at 130,600 Turkish liras (some $38,093) per kilogram.
The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was flat on the second day of the week and stood at 3.4310 by the time at 5 p.m. (1400GMT), compared to 3.4320 at Monday's close.
Analysts said investors on Wednesday would follow the speeches of U.S. Fed members, plus U.S. private sector employment, individual income, and personal consumption figures along with eurozone inflation data set to be released.
