ANKARA (AA) - The Borsa Istanbul index started Friday with a 51.14-point drop to open at 87,343.04.
The BIST 100 benchmark index decreased by 0.06 percent during the first transactions of the day.
The banking and holding sector indices were down 0.18 and 0.09 percent, respectively.
Turkey’s metal products machinery sector was the best performer among sub-indices -- 1.13 percent -- while the basic metal index fell the most, declining 0.46 percent.
The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate increased slightly to 3.7400 at 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Friday, compared with 3.7300 at Thursday's close.
Turkey's annual inflation rose to 9.22 percent in January, up from 8.53 percent previous month, according to a Turkish Statistical Institute release on Friday.
