Turkish stock exchange opens midweek looking up

BIST 100 index gains 17.62 points

ANKARA (AA) - Türkiye's benchmark stock index opened at 5,005.61 points on Wednesday, up 0.35%, or 17.62 points, from the previous close.

On Tuesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index plummeted 3.54% to close at 4,987.99 points, with a daily trading volume of 97 billion Turkish liras ($5.15 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was at 18.7783 as of 09.55 a.m. local time (0655GMT), the euro/lira exchange rate stood at 20.1883, and a British pound traded for 22.8475 Turkish liras.

Brent crude oil was selling for around $79.63 per barrel, while the price of an ounce of gold was at $1,886.45.
