Turkish stocks down at midweek open

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index falls 0.15% from previous close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s benchmark stock index opened at 1,683.10 points on Wednesday, down 2.50 points or 0.15% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 fell 0.99% to 1,685.60 points at Tuesday’s close, with a daily trading volume of 35.8 billion Turkish liras ($3.5 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate climbed to 10.45 as of 9:30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday, from 10.2650 at Tuesday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate surged to 11.8100 from 11.3690, while one British pound traded for 14.0400 Turkish liras, compared to 13.8110 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for $81.95 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Wednesday.
