Turkish stocks down at open

Federal Reserve on Wednesday lowered its benchmark rate, triggering negative impact on global markets

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index opened Thursday at 101.342,20 points, down 0.73%.

On Wednesday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 0.59% to close the day at 102,082.48 points with a daily trading volume of 6.6 billion Turkish liras ($1.12 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.5870 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Thursday.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate was 6.1750, and one British pound traded for 6.7970 Turkish liras.

One barrel of Brent oil sold for $64.48 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the Federal Reserve (FED) lowered its benchmark rate by 25 basis points to a range of 2%-2.25% and the confusing statements of Jerome Powell, head of FED is thought to have triggered negative impact on global markets.
