Turkish stocks jump 1.23% at Tuesday's close

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index surges over 1,450 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index hit 119,797.82 points on Tuesday, rising 1.23% from the previous close.

Starting the day at 119,504.74 points, as of the daily close, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index soared 1,456.3 points from Monday's close of 118,341.52 points.

During Tuesday's trading, the index hovered between 117,450.92 points and 120,077.50 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 828.3 billion Turkish liras ($138.2 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 14.3 billion Turkish liras ($2.4 billion).

On Tuesday's closing session, 79 stocks on the index rose, 17 were down, and four were flat compared to Monday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, private lender Garanti BBVA and oil and energy company Turcas Petrol.

Turcas Petrol (TRCAS) was the best performer, with its shares up 12.88%, while steel producer Cemtas Celik Makina (CEMTS) dropped the most, down 6.59%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,569.70 by market close, down from $1,572.20 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $54.45 per barrel as of 6.20 p.m. (1520GMT) on Tuesday.
