Turkish stocks on high note at midweek open

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gains 4.5 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index opened at 1,421.31 points on Wednesday, rising 4.49 points or 0.32% from the previous close.

At Tuesday's close, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index was flat at 1,416.82 points with a daily trading volume of 16.1 billion Turkish liras ($1.8 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate climbed to 9.0340 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday, compared to 9.0270 at Tuesday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 10.4360 versus 10.4180, and one British pound traded for 12.2910 Turkish liras, while it was at 12.2680 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for $83.25 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Wednesday.
