Turkish stocks open Thursday on high note

BIST 100 index gains around 5.30 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index opened at 1,284.52 points on Thursday, up by 0.41% or 5.30 points from the previous close.

At Wednesday’s close, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index surged 2.91% to hit an all-time high of 1,279.22 points, with a record high daily trading volume of 52.5 billion Turkish liras (nearly $6.6 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 7.8800 as of 9:30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), versus 7.8720 at the previous close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also increased to 9.2660 from 9.2510, while one British pound traded for 10.4160 Turkish liras, down from 10.5110.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $43.73 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT).
