Turkish stocks start week looking down

Borsa Istanbul BIST 100 index decreases over 780 points at opening session

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index started the week at 109,051.32 points on Monday, falling by 0.71%, or 784.15 points from the previous close.

At Friday's close, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index was up 0.62% at 109,835.47 points with a daily trading volume of 15.56 billion Turkish liras ($2.28 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 6.8210 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) Monday, compared to 6.8350 at the last week's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate decreased to 7.6660 from 7.7230 and one British pound traded for 8.5210 Turkish liras, up from 8.6210 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $37.45 as of 10.00 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Monday.
