Turkish stocks up 0.59% at opening session

Borsa Istanbul starts day with rise of around 575 points

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index started the week at 98,419.82 points on Monday, up by 0.59%, or 574.62 points.

On Friday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index fell 0.17% to close the week at 97,845.20 points with a daily trading volume of 11.3 billion Turkish liras ($1.59 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate fell to 7.0900 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) Monday, compared to 7.1320 at Friday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate also dropped to 7.6890, versus 7.7130, and one British pound traded for 8.8220 Turkish liras, versus 8.8130 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $30.60 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT).
