Turkish stocks up around 3% at Wednesday's close

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Turkish benchmark stock index closed Wednesday at 10,188.85 points, up 2.94% from its previous close, hitting its highest level in around four months.

After starting the day at 9,984.67, the BIST 100 index rose 290.84 points from Tuesday's close.

The lowest point for the index during the day was 9,984.67, while the daily high was 10,203.17.

On Wednesday, 89 indexes gained in value, while eight closed the day with losses.

The total transaction volume reached 144 billion Turkish liras ($3.96 billion), while the overall value of the index was 8.96 trillion liras ($246.4 billion).

The USD/TRY exchange rate was 36.4465 as of 6.55 pm local time (1555GMT), the EUR/TRY rate stood at 39.2575, and the GBP/TRY traded at 46.8820.

The price of gold was $2,918.60 per ounce, while the barrel price of Brent oil was $68.80.
