ANKARA (AA) - Turkey’s benchmark index rose 597.45 points to close at 76,030.78, daily session on Wednesday.
On the third day of the week, the BIST 100 index increased by 0.79 percent while the banking and holding sector indexes advanced by 1.16 and 0.93 percent respectively, and the total trading volume of the country's stock exchange market was 3.8 billion Turkish liras (approx. $1.1 billion).
Turkey's benchmark index has advanced almost 5 percent compared to close at 72,519.85 on Dec., 1, Thursday.
Among sector indices, the insurance index rose the most -- by 1.71 percent -- while the leasing factoring sector declined most by 1.58 percent.
Shares of Trabzonspor, a major football club, were the top percent gainer with an increase of 6.48 percent in value, while another prominent football club Besiktas saw the biggest decline with a drop of 4.65 percent.
The Borsa Istanbul Gold Exchange index advanced by 0.10 percent in value, with gold trading at 129,750 Turkish liras ($37,999) per kilogram.
The Turkish lira continued to gain ground against U.S. dollar on Wednesday, and the U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was down to stand at 3.4140 at 5 p.m. (1400GMT), compared to 3.4650 at Tuesday's closing session.
