Turkish stocks up at Friday opening

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index sees 5.31 points rise from previous close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index opened at 1,277.06 points on Friday, a slight rise of 0.42% or 5.31 points from the previous close.

At Thursday's close, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index was down 0.58% at 1,271.75 points, with a daily trading volume of 49 billion Turkish liras (nearly $2.38 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate fell to 7.6350 as of 9:30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), versus 7.7220 at the previous close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate slipped to 9.0140 from 9.1140, while one British pound traded for 10.0470 Turkish liras, down from 10.2260.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $43.00 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT).
