Turkish stocks up at midweek open

BIST 100 index gains 2.26 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index opened at 1,449.85 points on Wednesday, gaining 0.16% or 2.26 points from the previous close.

At Tuesday's close, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index was up 0.04% to close at 1,447.59 points, with a daily trading volume of 14.28 billion Turkish liras (over $1.66 billion).

One US dollar traded for 8.6120 Turkish liras as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT), up from 8.6040.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 10.4900, versus 10.4780 a day before, while one British pound traded for 12.2190 Turkish liras, rising from 12.1890.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for around $72.60 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT).
