Turkish stocks up at midweek open

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index rises 0.15% from previous close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s benchmark stock index opened at 1,618.06 points on Wednesday, up 2.42 points or 0.15% from the previous close.

The BIST 100 was up 0.44% to a new record high of 1,615.64 points at Tuesday’s close, with a daily trading volume of 34.6 billion Turkish liras ($3.6 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate climbed to 9.7570 as of 9:30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday, from 9.7140 at Tuesday's close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate was up from 11.2630 to 11.3010, while one British pound traded for 13.2250 Turkish liras, compared to 13.2060 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for $85.33 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Wednesday.
