ISTANBUL (AA) - Türkiye is adopting an approach that prioritizes energy security while establishing its own energy independence, said Serdar Karagoz, president and CEO of Anadolu.
Speaking at the İstanbul Energy Forum on Friday, Karagoz said that under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Türkiye, with its policies implemented at both local and national level, is achieving energy independence.
Türkiye is also adopting an approach that prioritizes energy security through political moves focused on peace and stability at the international level, he added.
"I hope that our forum, which has seen strong participation from the most important actors in the energy sector both from within Türkiye and abroad, will contribute to Istanbul's goal of becoming an energy hub," the head of Türkiye's premier news source said.
He said the international arena is seeing geopolitical tensions and fierce struggles like never before since World War II, noting that the tension is increasing every day.
Karagoz highlighted that in this tense political atmosphere, energy has become a tool in the international power struggle, and in such circumstances importance of energy journalism is growing by the day.
He pointed out that with widespread digitalization, disinformation, which is affecting all fields, has made the role of responsible media in this area even more critical.
The İstanbul Energy Forum, organized by Anadolu under the auspices of the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry, focuses on the theme, Common Future, Common Goals, and brings together global energy leaders to address shared challenges.
- Anadolu's mission to provide reliable information in global energy markets
Karagoz emphasized that the spread of manipulative news, influenced by powerful interest groups in the energy sector, as well as asymmetric and one-sided approaches, have increased the value of accurate and impartial journalism.
"As Anadolu, we operate with the mission of providing reliable access to information in global energy markets and playing a balancing role," he said.
Anadolu's Energy Terminal was launched in this context, he added.
"Our platform, which publishes in both English and Turkish, conveys all developments in the sector to the world without being influenced by interest groups or global actors," he said.
"Since 2023, tens of thousands of energy news stories served by our Energy Terminal have been used by international media."
"Additionally, our news content shared in 13 different languages, along with our principled, high-standard approach to journalism, has enhanced the agency's effectiveness and elevated it to a respected position among global news sources," Karagoz said.
He said escalating tensions have deepened wars and created the ground for new conflicts.
"The occurrence of a war alone does not threaten the international order. Wars have been a reality of the world we have lived in for thousands of years," he said. "However, when genocide is committed against civilians in a war, when war crimes are perpetrated, and when the international community or developed nations merely watch these events or worse, adopt a protective stance towards those committing war crimes; this destroys the international order."
"What is happening in Palestine today is exactly this," he said.
