ISTANBUL (AA) - Türkiye on Monday welcomed the move by Qatar and United Arab Emirates (UAE) to mutually reopen embassies after a years-long diplomatic rift.
"We warmly welcome Qatar and the United Arab Emirates' decision to reopen mutual missions after a long period," said a Turkish Foreign Ministry statement.
"We believe that this move will significantly contribute to the peace and stability of our region," it added.
Qatar and UAE have agreed to restore their diplomatic representation and reopen embassies as of Monday.
In a joint statement, the two Gulf neighbors said the Qatari Embassy in Abu Dhabi, consulate in Dubai, and UAE Embassy in Doha will resume work on June 19.
The UAE, along with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt, severed diplomatic relations with Qatar in 2017. But in 2021, the four countries signed a reconciliation agreement with Doha to heal their rift.
