MARDIN, Turkey (AA) – At least two soldiers and one village guard were martyred in an armed attack by PKK terrorists in the southeastern Mardin province late Friday, according to security sources.
The PKK terrorists attacked the soldiers on a checkpoint in Mardin’s Dargecit-Midyat road, also injuring three security guards, sources said speaking anonymously due to restrictions on talking to the media.
The injured were promptly taken to the Dargecit and Midyat State Hospitals. An operation is currently underway in the region to apprehend the attackers.
The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.
Since then, more than 600 security personnel have been martyred and more than 7,000 PKK terrorists have been killed.
