BIRMINGHAM, England (AA) - The British parliament will convene on Thursday to hold a debate on the King's Speech that was held on Tuesday.
King Charles III attended his first State Opening of UK Parliament as sovereign to announce the government's plans for the months ahead.
The proposed subject for the debate at the House of Commons has been announced as: "Breaking down barriers to opportunity," a strategy that aims to solve social mobility issues in walks of the public life in the country. The session is scheduled to continue until Friday afternoon.
Charles traveled to Westminster in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach to deliver the first King's Speech in more than 70 years.
The king said the government focused on "increasing economic growth and safeguarding the health and security of the British people for generations to come."
Charles ascended to the throne on Sept. 8, 2022 following the death of his long-serving mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
