LONDON (AA) — Over 610 migrants arrived in the UK on Sunday after crossing the English Channel, the highest single-day number this year, the British Home Office announced.
On 12 boats, 616 people were detected crossing the Channel which has become the year's highest crossing on a single day, according to a data released by the ministry on Monday.
The figures also show that 154 people on four boats were detected crossing the Channel on Saturday, making the weekend total 770.
The Home Office data includes individuals detected upon their arrival in the UK, as well as those detected in the Channel by UK authorities and subsequently brought to the country.
Tackling small boat crossings is among five priorities of the British government as more than 45,000 migrants arrived in the country crossing the Channel last year.
