LONDON (AA) – The British royal family's official website was targeted in a cyberattack but a royal source said that it was not a hack, according to local media reports on Sunday.

Early Sunday the website royal.uk showed an error message and visitors were not able to access the website.

Later the website was operational again but with additional security checks on users before allowing them to enter.

Citing a royal source, Sky News said it was not a hack and that no access was gained to the website's systems or content.

It is not yet clear who was responsible for the cyberattack, added the source.

Russian hacker group Killnet shared a post on Telegram claiming it was behind the brief attack.
