LONDON (AA) - The British Foreign Office summoned Chinese charge d'affaires in London on Tuesday over what it called “malicious cyber activity.”

"The FCDO (the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office) set out the Government’s unequivocal condemnation of Chinese state-affiliated organisations and individuals undertaking malicious cyber activity against UK democratic institutions and parliamentarians," a Foreign Office spokesperson said in a statement.

The spokesperson noted that the UK government would not tolerate "such threatening activity," and would continue to take strong action with partners across the globe to respond.

On Monday, British Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden told parliament that Britain had imposed "tough, targeted sanctions" on a front company and two individuals involved in cyber activity targeting officials, government entities, and parliamentarians around the world.
