LONDON (AA) - At a meeting Friday with Jordan’s King Abdullah II, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said the UK continues to press Israel on the need to adhere to international humanitarian law, according to the Prime Minister's Office.

The UK premier and Jordan's king met on the sidelines of a COP28 climate summit in Dubai, the office said in a statement.

Sunak "reassured King Abdullah that the UK continues to press Israel on the need to adhere to International Humanitarian Law and contain settler violence in the West Bank."

It noted that Sunak recognized the "vital role" Jordan has played in addressing the crisis in Gaza and hailed Jordan's aid support to Palestinian civilians.

"The Prime Minister reiterated the UK’s commitment to working towards a lasting resolution to the conflict which delivers dignity, peace and security for both Israelis and Palestinians," it said.

The leaders also confirmed the continued importance of bilateral ties between the two countries.

At least 109 Palestinians were killed and several others injured as Israel resumed striking various areas in the Gaza Strip following the end of a humanitarian pause, said the Health Ministry in Gaza.

The pause between Israel and Hamas, which went into effect Nov. 24, ended early Friday.
