ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukraine on Sunday claimed that it repelled two attacks by Russian forces in its strongholds in the Donetsk region.

“In the Donetsk region, border guards repelled attacks on two strongholds. Aerial reconnaissance revealed the training of the enemy's rifle units. So, the border guards-mortars ‘dispersed’ the troops during their advance,” the State Border Service of Ukraine said in a statement on Telegram.

The statement also said that Russian forces, supported by artillery, were storming a stronghold of Ukrainian border guards in the direction of Bakhmut, but were stopped with small arms and grenade launchers.

Bakhmut is a large transport hub through which Ukrainian troops in Donbas are supplied with weapons, military equipment and ammunition. The city has almost been captured by Russian private military company Wagner, its head Yevgeny Prigozhin claimed last week.
