ISTANBUL (AA) – Ukraine claimed early Sunday that it shot down eight Russian drones during an overnight attack in the country.
A statement from the Ukrainian Air Force claimed that its air defenses destroyed eight of nine drones launched from the direction of Primorsko-Akhtarsk town in Russia’s Krasnodar region.
There was no word in the statement on whether there were any casualties or damage to local infrastructure.
The statement came a day after the Ukrainian Air Force claimed that 74 of 75 drones launched by Russia in early Saturday attacks were destroyed.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram that five people were injured during the attacks, which he defined as the largest drone attack on Ukraine’s capital since the start of the war.
Russian officials have not yet commented on the statement, and independent verification of Ukraine’s claim is difficult due to the ongoing war, which began in February 2022.
