ISTANBUL (AA) - The head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office Andriy Yermak on Wednesday discussed the current situation about Moscow’s war on Kyiv, as well as defense support to Ukraine, with US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.

“Andriy Yermak informed (Sullivan) of the current situation at the front and the decisions made by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the military leadership regarding the course of the defense operation in the Bakhmut sector,” a statement by the Ukrainian presidency read following a phone conversation between the two officials.

The statement said the officials also discussed ongoing international efforts to provide defense and financial support to Ukraine.

It also noted that Yermak informed Sullivan about the damage inflicted on Ukraine's environment due to the war, saying the consequences of this damage will affect ecosystems across Europe.

“Therefore, Andriy Yermak said the world must make every effort to stop the destructive impact of aggression on the environment and bring Russia to justice, as provided for in the Ukrainian Peace Formula,” the statement said.

It added that Yermak thanked US President Joe Biden, both houses of the US Congress, and the American people for their “unwavering and strong support of Ukraine in its ongoing struggle for territorial integrity, freedom, and European democratic values.”

The US has been Ukraine’s staunchest military partner, with Washington having provided more than $29.8 billion in military aid since the start of Russia’s war on Ukraine more than a year ago.
