Ukrainian president meets with US senators, discusses military aid, security guarantees

Volodymyr Zelenskyy says issues discussed included relevant legislative initiatives and his upcoming meeting with US President Donald Trump

ISTANBUL (AA) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with a bipartisan delegation from the US Senate in Washington on Friday to discuss different issues, with a focus on continued military assistance, security guarantees, and efforts to end the conflict with Russia.

Following his meeting, Zelenskyy said in a statement on X that the issues discussed included relevant legislative initiatives and his upcoming meeting with US President Donald Trump.

He emphasized the need for sustained US support, calling Washington a “strategic partner and friend.”

“We are grateful for the unwavering bicameral and bipartisan support for Ukraine throughout all three years of Russia’s full-scale aggression,” he said.

Trump is scheduled to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and they are expected to sign an agreement on Ukraine's rare earth metals.
