USAK, Türkiye (AA) — Olena Tskunova Akdas, who had come to Türkiye's western Usak province from Ukraine as part of a student exchange program, became Muslim and took up the name "Reyyan."
Akdas, 26, got married six years ago in Usak, where she and her husband Omer went to the local mufti's office to declare her intention to embrace Islam.
A mufti is a professional jurist who interprets Muslim law.
After her profession of faith in her new religion, Akdas was gifted a Quran by the mufti.
