HAMILTON, Canada (AA) - The UN on Monday announced appointment of Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, the UN special representative for Iraq, as the new UN special coordinator for Lebanon.
According to a written statement by the UN Spokesperson's Office, Hennis-Plasschaert will replace the current UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Joanna Wronecka.
The statement also noted that Hennis-Plasschaert, appointed by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, has 25 years of experience in diplomacy, international security, and Middle Eastern affairs.
Hennis-Plasschaert, who has served as the UN Special Representative for Iraq since 2018, speaks English, French, and German.
