HAMILTON, Canada (AA) - Eleven people working for the UN have been detained by the Yemeni Houthi group, the global body's spokesman confirmed on Friday.
"I can confirm to you that the Houthi de-facto authorities have detained 11 United Nations national personnel working in Yemen," said Stephane Dujarric at a news conference.
Dujarric said the UN is "very concerned" about the developments in Yemen, and that the UN is "actively seeking clarification from the Houthi de-facto authorities regarding the circumstances of these detentions, and most importantly, to ensure the immediate access to those un personnel."
He further noted that the UN is "pursuing all available channels to secure the safe and unconditional release of all of them as rapidly as possible."
