GENEVA (AA) - The UN special coordinator for Lebanon arrived in Israel on Monday to hold high-level discussions with Israeli officials, focusing on the ongoing implementation of the ceasefire agreement reached last November and the challenges that remain.
A key aspect of the talks will be advancing the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006), which seeks a permanent ceasefire and lasting peace between Lebanon and Israel, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert's office said in a statement.
Ahead of her visit, Hennis-Plasschaert acknowledged the progress made since the agreement came into effect on Nov. 27.
She particularly welcomed, the office said, the withdrawal of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) from positions in southern Lebanon and the redeployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) to the region.
